The Koisuru One Piece (known as One Piece in Love in English) spin-off manga series will be the inspiration for an original net anime adaptation. The new series will be comprised of various vertical comedy shorts, and it is set to air in Japan between April 1-5, 2025. There's no worldwide announcement yet, but the original anime it is based on streams on Crunchyroll and Netflix.

The episodes will appear on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, with 4 to 5 episodes releasing every day at 8pm JST. They will only be available in Japanese, and there is no confirmation of an English release yet. The announcement of the new anime adaptation appeared during the AnimeJapan 2025 event held between March 22-23, 2025.

Koisuru One Piece, aka One Piece in Love, is a spin-off comedy manga written by Daiki Ihara. The story follows high school students Luffy Yamamoto, Nami Koyama, and Usopp Nakatsugawa, a group of One Piece fans that form a club dedicated to the series. Each episode is a parody of the long-running manga and anime series. The manga began serialization on June 2018, and it has been in a hiatus since November 7, 2021. It is set to return on April 10, 2025.

Luffy Yamamoto is voiced by Ryosuke Kanemoto (Shiki Tohno in Melty Blood: Type Lumina,) Nami Something is voiced by Ayane Sakura (Ochako Uraraka in My Hero Academia, Yotsuba Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets,) and Usopp Nakatsugawa is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura (Bruno Bucciarati in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Louis Guiabern in Metaphor: ReFantazio.)

The Koisuru One Piece (or One Piece in Love) original net anime will start airing on April 1, 2025 from YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. The One Piece anime is available on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and the English dub of the Egghead Arc is currently airing.

Shin Kamen Rider movie writer and director Hideaki Anno is currently working on the script for the sequel to the tokusatsu live action film. However, Toei has yet to greenlight the potential planned sequel to the 2023 movie.

The message confirming that Anno is working on the script for the sequel was shared on social media by the studio Khara official social media . The original message appeared in Japanese, and it roughly translates to:

"53 years ago, on (March) 18th, Kamen Rider vs. Shocker came out. And 2 years ago today Shin Kamen Rider also released.

I am currently writing the script for 5 other works and, if everything goes as planned, I will also be giving my best working on the 6th project, Shin Kamen Rider: Masker World. (Our company president)”

Hideaki Anno didn’t add any details on what the other five projects he is working on are. As a reminder, Anno worked on the recent Shin Japan Heroes Universe movies, including Shin Kamen Rider, Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and the final entry in the Rebuild of Evangelion films. In addition to the aforementioned movies, Anno is one of the writers in the Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime.

Shin Kamen Rider is available for streaming via Prime Video. Hideaki Anno is currently working on the script for a sequel tentatively named Shin Kamen Rider: Masker World.

Crunchyroll announced that there will be an array of new One Piece Egghead arc anime episodes, with English dub ones appearing ahead of new simulcast installments out of Japan. The new dubbed debut is March 18, 2025. However, more totally new episodes show up on April 6, 2025. 

In the case of the English One Piece Egghead arc dub releases, it basically finishes up season 21 of the anime. Last Crunchyroll left off, it stopped at episode 1,108. The new drop picks up at 1,109. That will carry over to episode 1,122, which was the last episode of that season. 

As for the new episodes, that picks up right where things left off. Episode 1,123 of the One Piece Egghead Arc will debut on April 6, 2025. This means it will be a part of the Spring 2025 anime season when it arrives. 

In the meantime, there will also be some additional anime adaptations to watch. The specials 14, 15, and 16 will all appear on March 18, 2025. 

This means there’s one arc that isn’t in the anime yet. While we’re getting through the Egghead arc of One Piece, none of Elbaph showed up. However, that only did start in September 2024, so it might be a while before that shows up. 

You can find the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan. The live-action adaptation is only on Netflix.

A new Digimon event for the 25th anniversary of the anime will be held in Tokyo, Japan, and it will take place between January 4, 2025 and February 11, 2025. Under the title of “Digimon Animation 25th Anniversary in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza” event will be DiverCity Tokyo Plaza located in Odaiba.

An original clear file folder will be given as a bonus for participating in a stamp rally and shopping at some of the stores in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza. Participants that get all of the nine stamps and show tickets with a single purchase of over 1,000 yen (~$6.55.) Additionally, a Digimon 25th anniversary food truck offering themed foods will be available during weekends and public holidays.

Various photos spots with the characters of the 9 main Digimon anime series will be available at the venue as well. Furthermore, the voice of the popular character Agumon will make announcements through the venue's PA system for the duration of the event. A new special PV for the 25th anniversary will also appear at the venue, alongside "Butter-Fly," the opening theme song of Digimon Adventure and other Digimon videos.

Other events have appeared for the 25th anniversary of the Digimon anime, such as Digimon Adventure exhibition that was held in Tokyo between August 10-25, 2024 and later in Osaka between October 5-20, 2024, as well as a special promotional video exclusively made for the anniversary celebration.

The “Digimon Animation 25th Anniversary in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza” event will be held in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza between January 4, 2025 and February 11, 2025. The anime is streaming on Hulu.

Plex has revealed a new figure of the Type-3 Kiryu Mechagodzilla adorned with the Evangelion Unit-01 colors. The company has also opened pre-orders for the figure on the Japanese Bandai web store. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The figure's official name will be "Toei Great Kaiju Series - Type-3 Kiryu (2002) Heavy Armament Type, EVA Unit-01 Color." It will be available with a price tag of 30,800 yen (~$203). The figure will have an overall height of around 29 cm (11.42 in) and a length of 36 cm (14.17 in).

Plex did not mention whether the figure would have any movable parts. Instead, it confirmed a focus on the lighting gimmicks. The figure's package will come with a power supply unit to light up the yellow eyes. In addition, the owner will be able to use a blacklight/ultraviolet flashlight to make the green parts glow with fluorescent effects in the dark.

Plex has also confirmed that this new figure will be part of the Godzilla VS Evangelion crossover project. Earlier in May 2024, Bandai revealed an Evangelion Unit-01 Burning G Awakening Form figure, which shows Shinji's unit getting fused with the Godzilla.

The Toei Kaiju figure of the 2002 Type-3 Kiryu with Heavy Armaments and Evangelion Unit-01 colors will be available in February 2025.

Toei shared some of the new character designs and key artwork for the Digimon Adventure promotional video (PV). The video is being created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original anime series.

The name of the music video is Digimon Adventure: Beyond, and it will feature the song “brave heart” from the original anime series alongside new animation. The new character art shows protagonist Taichi and Yamato as grownups, with the key art showing the same two characters. The art shows both characters in early development black and white colors.

Additionally, Toei shared that the new Digimon Adventure: Beyond PV will include other characters from the anime series. Anime Director Hiroyuki Kakudo will be in charge of directing the new video. Kakudo was the original director of Digimon Adventure and its Digimon Adventure 02 sequel. Digimon Adventure –Beyond– is scheduled to appear during Digimon Con 2025, which will be held in late March of the same year.

The video was originally announced back on May 2024 with a promotional image of the seven chosen children inside phone booths drawn in a prototype sketch style.

The first three Digimon movies are being re-released with a new dub from the original cast. The Blu-Ray release is set for December 17, 2024.

The announcement of the release date was made by current Western distributor Discotek Media, who confirmed the original Digimon movies would be released as one set with a new dub. The Blu-Ray will contain the shorts Digimon Adventure, Our War Game and Hurricane Touchdown. These were all edited together to create The Digimon Movie that released in theaters in the West.

Actor Joshua Seth also confirmed his involvement with the new dub. He’ll be returning to voice Tai along with the rest of the original cast. He also confirmed that the new dub was based more faithfully on the original Japanese script, as the three shorts will remain uncut. In addition to the new dub, all three Digimon movies will have Japanese audio as an option. The original dub of The Digimon Movie will also be included, remastered in HD for the first time.

This release of the Digimon movies coincides with the 25th anniversary of the anime series. As well as the new dub for the West, other celebrations are occurring. A Digimon Adventure exhibition took place in Ikebukuro Sunshine City in Tokyo in August 2024, featuring concept art and storyboards from the original show. The exhibition will be running again in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi Opa from October 5-20, 2024.

The new dub of the Digimon movies will be released on Blu-Ray on December 17, 2024.

A Digimon Adventure exhibition will take place in Tokyo and Osaka this summer. This is to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original show. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Toei first announced this exhibition back in May 2024 with a new promotional video. As a reminder, the exhibition will be at Ikebukuro Sunshine City (in Tokyo) from August 10 to 25, 2024. Then, it will be at the Shinsaibashi Opa (in Osaka) from October 5 to 20, 2024.

Everyone will receive Agumon and Gabumon cards as a present. These cards are exclusive to the exhibition and have a watermark on them to denote that. You’ll also be able to get a special Digimon comic book. People will also get the opportunity to purchase a CD with the best songs from Digimon history (between 2015 and 2023 anyway). It’ll cost 2800 JPY ($18). The CD will come with a random bromide of one of the Digimon partners from the show and tri movies.

At the exhibition, you can check out original concept art, storyboards, animation cels, and scripts. There will also be photo spots for you to take pictures, as well as a display that’ll let you look everything that’s happened in the world of Digimon since Digimon Adventure first appeared on air 25 years ago.

The Philippines-made live-action adaptation of Voltes V will formally make its way to Japan in late 2024. Toei has announced that it will release Voltes V: Legacy first as a movie in theaters across Japan on October 18, 2024. The company will also air an edited version of the television series on the Japanese channel Tokyo MX in Fall 2024. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The Japanese company will thus bring both Voltes V: Legacy – The Cinematic Experience which premiered in the Philippines in mid-April 2023 and the 90-episode television series which originally aired on GMA Network from May to November 2023. The movie will be available in Japan in two versions: one with the original Tagalog voiceovers and Japanese subtitles, and the other with Japanese dubs.

Toei has published a special movie on YouTube, but it is geo-locked to Japan only. The company also attached a video combining scenes from the original 1977 anime with the newer live-action adaptation on the title's Japanese X that is also more widely available to watch:

As a side note, Toei confirmed the Japanese release of Voltes V: Legacy right on the 47th anniversary day of the original anime's first episode airing on June 4, 1977. Meanwhile, Bandai has released a Shokugan Modeling Project kit of the original Voltes V robot. The latter also confirmed plans to release new figures based on the live-action adaptation.

Voltes V: Legacy will be available in Japan first as a movie in theaters on Friday, October 18, 2024. Toei will also air the TV series on Tokyo MX in Fall 2024.

A live-action movie and television series of Oshi no Ko will come out in Winter 2024. This is a t effort between Amazon and Toei. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

A new key visual for the live-action Oshi no Ko project shows the six main characters re-enacting poses from the anime and manga series. The show will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime. Meanwhile, Toei will distribute the movie in theaters. The release windows for the show and movie are still unclear.

The cast for the live-action adaptations of Oshi no Ko is as follows:

• Ai: Asuka Saito (former member of Nogizaka46)
• Akane: Mizuki Kayashima (Tomorrow, I Will Be Someone’s Girlfriend)
• Aqua: Kaito Sakurai (Ao Haru Ride)
• Kana: Nanoka Hara (Suzume)
• Memcho: Ano (former member of You’ll Melt More!)
• Ruby: Nagisa Saito (former member of =LOVE)

Most of the actors and actresses playing these characters were actually idols before they graduated from their agencies to pursue other careers.

Oshi no Ko is a popular anime and manga series about a pair of twins, Aqua and Ruby, who were fans of the idol, Ai. They find themselves reincarnated as Ai’s twin children, and they become idols themselves to solve the mystery of their mother’s death. Yen Press is releasing the manga in English and HIDIVE is distributing the anime adaptation.

The live-action show and movie of Oshi no Ko will come out in Winter 2024. Yen Press handles the manga outside Japan, and chapters appear on Manga Plus. The anime is streaming on HIDIVE.

Toei announced that Hololive's VTuber Shirakami Fubuki will be the voice actress for Geats Chemy in the movie Kamen Rider The Winter Movie: Gotchard & Geats. The fox-themed VTuber will play the creature modeled after a nine-tailed fox.

Geats Chemy will appear as a new original character in the crossover movie between Kamen Rider Gotchard and Kamen Rider Geats. She is a species of artificial lifeforms sealed inside Ride Chemy Cards in Kamen Rider Gotchard, the 34th Kamen Rider entry which started airing in September 2023. Toei will model Geats Chemy after the eponymous hero of Kamen Rider Geats, the 33rd entry that concluded in August 2023.

Shirakami Fubuki is a first-generation Japanese Hololive VTuber who is also part of the Hololive Gamers sub-group. She has been featured in collaborations with numerous franchises in recent months. Other than Kamen Rider, Shirakami Fubuki has also made appearances in Konami's arcade rhythm game Sound Voltex and Takara Tomy's Zoids series in October 2023. In the latter, Takara Tomy produced a limited Gatling Fox model kit inspired by the fox-like VTuber.

Kamen Rider The Winter Movie: Gotchard & Geats will appear in Japanese theaters on December 22, 2023.

A global release of Hideaki Anno's Shin Kamen Rider film isn't confirmed yet, but its tie-in game adaptation is ready to cross the seas. SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble will launch in Asia on April 27, 2023. The game will appear on PC and Nintendo Switch, and will be fully localized into English and published by Bandai Namco.

The SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble trailer replicates the opening sequence of Shin Kamen Rider, which was heavily inspired by the original 1971 Kamen Rider intro. The trailer shows off gameplay footage, featuring Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo, beating through waves of goons from SHOCKER. SHOCKER is the secret organization that kidnapped Takeshi and turned him into the cyborg super soldier Kamen Rider. The Shin Kamen Rider incarnation will fight both with and without his helmet, and spends a fair amount of time wearing a black overcoat over his cybernetic armor.

The game itself is a side-scrolling brawler-style title, though it appears to incorporate systems to gradually improve Kamen Rider's abilities. Kamen Rider also goes into battle against Kumo Augment, a SHOCKER-created monster from the film and its version of the classic monster Man Spider. Kamen Rider also deploys his famous Rider Kick super move to annihilate his foes.

SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble will be available in Asia on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on April 27, 2023.

It has been 38 days since The First Slam Dunk debuted in theaters in Japan, and I the movie made over 7.6 billion yen at the box office. That would be around $57.8 million. This is the sixth week in a row that The First Slam Dunk topped the rankings for how many people watched it on the weekends. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

In Japan, around 5.27 million people have gone to see it since its debut on  December 3, 2022. As of January 4, 2023, the movie has started appearing in Korean theaters as well. The Korean release has had over 420,000 viewers so far within five days. That’s over 4.291 billion won, which would be around $3.47 million. It has received a 9.3/10 rating on Naver, which is a popular South Korean website, and many fans praised it on social media.

The First Slam Dunk movie adapts Shohoku’s match against Sannoh High, as well as the Pierce one-shot. You can view the trailer for it here:

As opposed to the original show, it uses 3D CGI animation, as well as features a new cast. Since the movie is starting from the middle of the series, most fans should be familiar with the characters and surrounding circumstances to fully enjoy it. For people who have never watched or read Slam Dunk before, the original Toei Animation show is on Crunchyroll.

The First Slam Dunk is airing in theaters in Japan and Korea. It is unknown when and if it will get a North American release.

According to Cinema Today, The First Slam Dunk has made close to 1.3 billion yen in its first two days in theaters. This would be around $9.7 million. In addition, around 847,000 people watched the movie between December 3 to 4, 2022. [Thanks, Cinema Today!]

The movie is #1 on the Top Most-Attended Movies in Japan ranking from December 3 to 4, 2022. In second place is Suzume no Tojimari, which has been in theaters since November 11, 2022. Tsuki no Michikake, which also just aired, is in third place. While Toei did not release much information on the plot prior to the movie’s release, The First Slam Dunk follows Shohoku’s match against Sannoh High during the second round of the Interhigh. It also adapts Pierce, which is a one-shot that focuses on Miyagi’s past.

Slam Dunk is a retro classic manga and anime series that originally ran from 1990 to 1996. It follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who is very unpopular with girls. He falls in love with Haruko Akagi, who reacts favorably to him, and he s the Shohoku High School basketball team at her suggestion. Though he started playing basketball in an attempt to get with Haruko, Hanamichi eventually comes to genuinely love the sport.

The movie features a new cast of voice actors. For example, Subaru Kimura (Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen) now voices Hanamichi instead of Takeshi Kusao. As well, it uses 3D CGI animation instead of traditional hand-drawn art that the show did. It is unclear when and if The First Slam Dunk will arrive in overseas theaters.

Toei released the first key visual for the Knights of the Zodiac movie on its official webpage. The visual shows the back of a man while a stone statue breaks apart in the distance. Its tagline is “Sur destiny.” There is also a trailer for the movie that you can watch from the Toei YouTube channel.

Knights of the Zodiac will be a Hollywood movie adaptation of the Saint Seiya manga. The show originally came out in 1986, and has been a highly influential work for both domestic and international fans. Mackenyu (Chihayafuru) will portray protagonist Seiya. Other cast include Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), and Famke Janssen (GoldenEye).

As for the crew, Tomasz Baginski (The Witcher) is the director. Andy Cheng (Rush Hour 2) is the action director, and Matt Stuecken and Josh Campbell (10 Cloverfield Lane) wrote the screenplay. In a comment on the website, Mackenyu stated that he is touched and surprised that he got to participate in a Saint Seiya work, due to its global popularity. He is also excited that this would be his first main role in a Hollywood film,. He put his all into portraying Seiya.

Knights of the Zodiac will appear some time in 2023.
