Kaiyodo announced some new Dead or Alive 6 figures, and they’ll be based on recurring DOA heroines Honoka and Marie Rose. Both are early in development, as the manufacturer only shared teasers for both on social media. These announcements were in both Japanese and English, so it is likely they are being prepared for a worldwide release. The company often does that, especially with its Revoltech figures.

At the moment, only official images of the characters based on their appearances in Dead or Alive 6 appeared, which suggests each of them will be depicted in their official, default costumes from that installment. The reveal also confirmed these will be 1/7 scale figures. This means they will likely be around 10 inches tall.

Some of Kaiyodo’s last Koei Tecmo figures involved Revoltech Ninja Gaiden ones.

One of the last Dead or Alive figures involved the DOA XVV version of Marie Rose based on her appearance in Azur Lane. That is a part of the Koei Tecmo KT Model+ brand. It is only a 1/6 one though. It is expected to release in December 2025. 

Dead or Alive 6 is available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the Kaiyodo DOA figures based on Honoka and Marie Rose are in development.

Koei Tecmo has revealed Venus Vacation Prism – Dead or Alive Xtreme, a new romance adventure game featuring several of the heroines that also appear in the original Venus Vacation free-to-play game. The revelation of this new title also all but confirmed the direction the company is taking for the Dead or Alive series.

When Koei Tecmo first teased the new game’s announcement via its Japanese X , it used the term “New Venus Vacation Project.” The company eventually retained Dead or Alive Xtreme on the new game’s subtitle, but the fact remains that Venus Vacation has taken over the main spotlight as if to signify that this is the new direction Koei Tecmo will focus on.

The difference in attention Koei Tecmo gave between the original fighting game and the Xtreme spin-offs has been evident in recent years. While the 2012 prequel Dead or Alive 5 enjoyed long-time with numerous DLC and version updates for several years, the sequel did not live up to the company's expectations.

Koei Tecmo originally intended for the 2019 mainline entry Dead or Alive 6 to be featured in major tournaments, including EVO. However, the game not making its way to EVO 2019's title list was one of the major reasons for the company to cease ing the game after just around a year in 2020.

On the contrary, the 2017 free-to-play spin-off game Venus Vacation is still under active management and even continues receiving new characters as of 2024. Following the addition of Yukino in 2023, the company has since included more original characters in Shizuku, Reika, and Meg.

As a side note, Koei Tecmo has also confirmed a PC Steam release of Venus Vacation Prism with English subtitle . But if it’s anything like the original Venus Vacation, the game will most likely be region-locked to select countries and territories in Southeast and East Asia, including Japan. In addition, the company has set up an English official site for the title. However, it appears on the company’s Taiwanese website instead of the American or European sites.

Most of the long-time key staff are also no longer working at Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. The likes of Tomonobu Itagaki, Hiroaki Matsui, and Katsunori Ehara had long left the group. Yohei Shimbori, the main person in charge of Dead or Alive 6, also departed Koei Tecmo in 2021.

The latest organizational structure of Team Ninja does not seem to be made to a possible new Dead or Alive fighting game either. The primary team under Fumihiko Yasuda had made action games like Nioh, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Rise of the Ronin, but it has also received requests for a new Ninja Gaiden game. And then we have Yasunori Sakuda’s team, which is in charge of not only the Venus Vacation games but also another free-to-play game in Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator.

There may still be a glimmer of hope for a new fighting game since Yosuke Hayashi still remains in the company as one of the last veteran of Team Ninja. However, Hayashi has since been promoted to vice president of Koei Tecmo Games, and his team has also been more focused on the development of major crossover titles like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors.

It will take a lot of convincing for Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja, and Koei Tecmo to consider a new Dead or Alive fighting game following the sixth entry’s failure. The Xtreme spin-off series—or rather Venus Vacation now—has pretty much taken over the spotlight, so expect the company to focus more on this line for the foreseeable future.

Venus Vacation Prism – Dead or Alive Xtreme will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC in early 2025.

Dead or Alive series publisher Koei Tecmo took action against an unauthorized seller of DOA body pillows in Japan. The company referred the offender to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police for violations of copyright on January 24, 2023 [Thanks, Famitsu!].

According to the announcement from Koei Tecmo, the offender possessed DOA body pillows (also called "dakimakura" or "hug pillows") with covers that "adapted or copied the appearance" of characters from Dead or Alive without authorization. The offender possessed 22 body pillows and pillow covers purchased online with intent to resell them to others. The pillow designs featured six characters who appear in Dead or Alive 6, which had been modified in various ways. The modifications included deleting their clothes. The announcement didn't list which characters were found in the offender's stash of DOA body pillows, but did mention that the character Marie Rose was among them. In its statement, Koei Tecmo condemned the act as "extremely malicious" and damaging to the image of Dead or Alive.

Such acts of copyright infringement are relatively common, and this isn't the first time Koei Tecmo (and Tecmo before it) took action on behalf of Dead or Alive specifically. In the past it cracked down on vendors selling things like videos created using versions of Dead or Alive games that used similar "nude mods". The secondary market for fan-created works is very active, and many companies producing IP will issue "derivative works" guidelines to advise creators on what sort of content can be created and monetized without them. For example, in 2021 HoYoVerse (then miHoYo) listed rules on creating fan-made merchandise based on Genshin Impact. Uma Musume publisher Cygames also updated its guidelines to caution creators against making and selling work that "damaged" the names of the real-life racehorses that are represented in-game.

The King of Fighters Allstar is holding a Dead or Alive 6 collaboration event from July 29 to August 19, 2021, in which players can collect Kasumi, Nyotengu, Marie Rose, and Honoka as fighters. Along with swimsuit versions of the collectible characters, there will also be check-in rewards and three new Dead or Alive-themed dungeons to fight through.

Starting July 29, 2021, players can collect SS Honoka by summoning fighters in the Carnival event. SS Marie Rose is available through clearing in-game missions. SS Kasumi will also be available, along with the swimsuit Angel of Paradise version of Nyotengu and Marie Rose. On August 5, players will have a chance to get SS Nyotengu, as well as Angel of Paradise Kasumi and Honoka.

For 14 days, new players will receive various item reports upon logging into the game, including 200 summon packs as well as two test fighters. The new dungeon, Beach of Paradise, will reward players with rubies and Level Up items upon clearing stages with Dead or Alive characters.

The new Rush Dungeon will also allow players to fight with Dead or Alive 6 characters in order to earn collaboration-themed affinity items. Finally, the Advent Dungeon will pit players against a team of The King of Fighters Kasumi and Dead or Alive 6 Kasumi. Upon defeating the doppelganger duo, players will earn coins that can be traded for Dead or Alive 6-themed Option Cards and Imprint Stones.

Netmarble has also released five new trailers for each fighter, including an additional trailer for the Angel of Paradise version of Marie Rose, showcasing each fighter's abilities and moves.

The King of Fighters Allstar is immediately available on iOS and Android devices, and the Dead or Alive 6 collaboration event will run from July 29 to August 19, 2021.

Earlier this week, Good Smile Company and Wonderful Works announced that the companies are releasing a standing scale figure of NiCO, the blue-haired scientist introduced in Dead or Alive 6. This will be the first DOA6 -inspired figure to release since the game's launch.

The figure will be 1/7 scale, and is based off popular Japanese artist Fuzichoco's design. NiCO's hair has a bit of a translucent look to recreate Fuzichoco's design. Focus has also been put into recreating the white scientist coat that NiCO wears, as well as the plasma that NiCO uses to attack enemies with via her three 'EMF' rings in Dead or Alive 6.

The figure comes with an extra hair part to recreate the extra hairstyle available via customization in Dead or Alive 6, where one of NiCO's eyes is obscured by her hair. Additionally, the figure stand is themed after her home stage, the laboratory, and thus bears a mechanical look.

Currently, the figure is available for pre-order via Good Smile Online Store, and pre-orders will stay open until July 1, 2020 at 9pm JST. The figure is set to release in December 2020, and will cost 17,800 yen (plus tax; equivalent to around $166 USD).

Dead or Alive 6 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The free version of the game is currently holding five weeks of free character weekends.

While the full version of Dead or Alive 6 celebrated a milestone on April 14, 2020 with the last batch of DLC, the free version is also going to have something special going on. The official Twitter revealed a series of Dead or Alive 6 Core Fighters free characters weekends is about to begin on April 18, 2020. For five weeks in a row, until May 17, 2020, people will be able to test out even more characters for a limited time.

These Dead or Alive 6 free weekends are being offered up as a means of celebrating over three million people ing this trial version of the game. Normally, it comes with only four characters people can use, which are Bass, Diego, Hitomi, and Kasumi. Whenever a free weekend occurs, people get to use those additional characters temporarily over that weekend.

Here is the schedule showing which additional Dead or Alive 6 Core Fighters free characters will be available each week. Even some of the newer DLC characters, like Rachel and Tamaki, are included.

• April 18-19, 2020: Hayate, La Mariposa, Marie Rose, Nyotengu, and Zack.
• April 25-26, 2020: Ayane, Jann Lee, Leifang, Phase 4, and Tina.
• May 2-3, 2020: Hayabusa, Honoka, Mila, Momiji, and Rig.
• May 9-10, 2020: Brad, Christie, Eliot, Nico, and Rachel.
• May 16-17, 2020: Bayman, Helena, Kokoro, Raidou, and Tamaki.

In each case, five characters will be available to sample. You’ll just have access to those additional characters alongside the four that Dead or Alive 6 Core Fighters comes with. Don’t expect any extra DLC to also appear.

People might want to stop by for at least the last weekend, given how recently Tamaki was released. She only just debuted in March 2020 and marks a situation where a Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation heroine made her way over to the full game.

The day has finally arrived. Dead or Alive 6 DLC costumes are finally rolling out. This last round of DLC consists of two packs of outfits not included in the $89.99 season 4. Koei Tecmo has shared a video and screenshots of each one.

First, these are the Revival School Uniforms Dead or Alive 6 DLC costumes. The new outfits here are the ones for characters like Nico and Tamaki, who are entirely new to the series. There are a mix of schoolgirl outfits and ones for teachers. For example, La Mariposa is clearly a teacher, while someone like Marie Rose is a student. We also have some fun takes on them, as Leifang looks like some kind of child prodigy ready to conduct some science experiments. This pack costs $24.99.

Here we have the Revival High Society Dead or Alive 6 costumes. All of the dresses are designed to look refined and proper and, as with the uniforms, only include new outfits for new heroines like Nico and Tamaki. It costs $24.99. For reference, this costume pack currently goes for $19.99 for Dead or Alive 5: Last Round.

The last round of Dead or Alive 6 DLC is upon us. A new selection of outfits from past games is about to appear, as foretold by the company back at the end of March 2020. On April 14, 2020, people will be able to pick up both the High Society and the School Uniform packs that they might have ed from Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. To celebrate, some of the characters have been shown off in the new-to-Dead or Alive 6 outfits.

Leading up to the debut of these last bits of DLC, Koei Tecmo has been showing off screenshots of the revival costumes on Twitter in small batches. The first batch showed off Christie, Honoka, Lisa, and Marie Rose in a mix of the High Society and School Uniforms costumes. The second round had Kokoro, Momiji, Rachel, and Tamaki in the different types of attire. The last bunch had Hitomi, Kasumi, Nico, and Tina in the “new” outfits.

Here are samples of all the final Dead or Alive 6 DLC outfits. Both Nico and Tamaki’s are entirely new, as they are new characters.

Dead or Alive 6 is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. People will be able to get the last two sets of costumes on April 14, 2020. As they are both “Revival” sets, they aren’t included in Season 4.

Koei Tecmo announced that Dead or Alive 6 will get its final DLC with patch v1.22 that is scheduled to arrive in mid-April.

The Dead or Alive 6 patch v.122 update will add the [Revival] High Society Costumes and the [Revival] School Uniforms as DLC. The game will also get various bug fixes and more in the patch. Additionally, players will receive 1 Ticket on April 16, 2020.

After over a year of updates, Dead or Alive 6 will see its final DLC in the patch v1.22. While that means no further additional content in the game, current features such as online matches, rankings, and the store will remain available for all players.

As previously reported, the game just got its v1.21 update as a solution to permanently unlock hair colors. You can read more from the patch notes for v1.21a that just rolled out for PS4:

• The hair color change system underwent a large-scale revision: hair color change can be now unlocked on permanent basis for any hairstyle that features it, and includes all available colors.
  (E.g., if you purchase Hair Color Change for Marie Rose's "Long" hairstyle, you will unlock all 16 hair colors for this hairstyle.)
• All Tickets that were used to purchase hair colors prior to this update have been refunded.
  (E.g., if you have used 5 Tickets to purchase hair colors on v1.20 and v1.21, you will receive 5 Tickets when you apply the v1.21a update.)
• As a result of the large-scale revision of the hair color change system, all hair color settings have been reset to default.
• The number of Tickets that can be purchased has been limited to the maximum number of items that can be exchanged for Tickets.
• Added the information display that shows the number of remaining available costumes and hair colors that can be exchanged for Tickets.
• Added the information display that shows the maximum number of Tickets required to unlock all available costumes and hair colors.

The Dead or Alive 6 hair color saga is about to end, and it seems like the fix has the potential to address every issue people had with the practice. The official Twitter revealed the PlayStation 4 version of the game will get update 1.21a on March 31, 2020. It will make all hair color unlocks both permanent and include all colors for the cost of the Tickets. In addition, anyone who did spend Tickets, which cost real cash, on hair colors will be getting those tickets back.

Here is the full statement on how the Dead or Alive 6 hair color fiasco will be fixed on March 31st. Essentially, the update serves to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. However, it doesn't note if the price of unlocking hair colors will still be one Ticket, or if that will change since you now unlock all 16 colors for a hairstyle when you make a purchase.

Update:

Release date for patch v1.21a is scheduled to be on March 31st. (v1.21a is applied only for PS4 version.)

• The hair color change feature has now been revised: hair color can now be unlocked permanently for any hairstyle that offers it, and includes all available colors. (E.g., if you purchase Hair Color for Marie Rose’s “Long” hairstyle, you will unlock all 16 hair colors for this hairstyle).
• All Tickets that were used to purchase hair colors prior to this update have been refunded. (E.g., if you have used 5 tickets to purchase hair colors on v1.20 and v1.21, you will receive 5 Tickets when you apply the v.1.21a update).
• As a result of the revision, all hair color settings have been reset to default.

The Dead or Alive 6 hair color update was added to the PlayStation 4 version of the game on February 25, 2020 and would give each character 16 color options. However, it became a controversial decision, as people would have to use a paid Ticket each time they wanted to change the hair color, even if they already had “purchased” that color before. The colors also weren’t tied to save data, so they could be lost if you lost your save. In early March 2020, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja confirmed they were working on a solution, which will now roll out at the end of the month.

The Design Contest 2019 Costume Set is available piecemeal for $2.99 each for its six costumes or $13.99 for the full bundle.

The downside is, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja still aren’t talking about how the hair color microtransactions will be fixed for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The feature incensed players once they learned it would cost a paid Ticket each time a hair color was changed. An official statement promised things would be fixed. However, that isn’t happening with this March 1.21 patch. Instead, that will follow in 1.21a. We still don’t know what the fix will do.

Famitsu: Why did you choose Tamaki from DOAXVV?

Yohei Shimbori, Producer: "In the first place, we didn't think of choosing a crossover fighter from Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation, but after hearing a countless amount of requests from players both in and outside Japan, we decided to do it.

When we were choosing the character, we narrowed the candidates down from the perspective of "girls who look like they'd be able to fight". Furthermore, because all of DOA6's additional characters are all the kind who have abilities that exceed that of a regular human's, we wanted to go with something different.

From the remaining candidates, Tamaki was chosen as her adult-like composure shone amongst the rest. All of the girls are quite charming, so we felt some pressure from the act of picking a character itself, but looking at everyone's reactions when she was announced, we were able to relax after seeing that we managed to meet everyone's expectations.

By the way, Tamaki says that this tournament is a "festival of Venuses", but this is just Tamaki's misconception due to Zack's flashy way of writing the invitation. This is the same way Zack manages to invite all the girls onto his island in the DOAX series."

Famitsu: Why did you make her Aikido her battle style?

Shimbori: "As she's a former model and fashion designer, she has beautiful grace and posture; we also considered her nationality and interest in yoga, logically piecing together her skills and physical abilities. As we wanted to have her use Japan's traditional martial arts, based on graceful body movements without overexertion, we chose Aikido.

The name sounds similar to Momiji's Hayabusa-style Aikijutsu, but it's something completely different. They're both based on actual Aikido, and we arranged forms for atemi and throws to better fit Tamaki in DOA6."

Famitsu: DOA6 will reach its first anniversary in March. Please share a message to all the players.

Shimbori: "Thanks to everyone, we've managed to reach the first anniversary after DOA6's release. Although we implemented various strategies, there are quite a few that did not go well. I'm thankful that we've come this far, and it's all because we've received despite all the trouble caused.

I've been deeply involved with Tamaki's outfit design, moveset creation, etc. down to the finest details. Thanks to putting in all our effort, I believe that she'll be very well-made as a DOA character, and that players will be able to enjoy a different "flavor" of action from characters up until now. For those who are fans of Tamaki, and those who aren't, I hope you'll enjoy playing as her."

Thinking of how she'll be able to encounter new types of "beauty" there, Tamaki decides to with a teasing smile on her face.

Martial Arts: Aikido

Using various holds and body movements, Tamaki uses a practical form of aikido that also adds in atemi attacks in Dead or Alive 6. With her flexible and beautiful body movements, she neutralizes opponents' attacks.

Tamaki comes with a whole lot of costumes, some of which are designed after ones she had in Venus Vacation. She can wear glasses like all other characters, but it seems she can't change her hair color yet.

The official Dead or Alive 6 Twitter has issued a statement about the hair color microtransactions found in the PlayStation 4 version of the game. In it, the developer and publisher announce the issue fans had with it potentially being an exploitative option. While a remedy wasn't announced, the official statement says that a "solution that helps to mitigate this issue" is currently in the works.

The Dead or Alive 6 hair color changes were added as part of the PlayStation 4 February 25, 2020 patch 1.20. In addition, the changes were tied to save data and not saved on the server, so if data was corrupted or lost, the characters would go back to their original hair colors.

Dead or Alive 6 hair color changes are a surprisingly expensive thing. Back when update 1.20’s DLC was teased, a PlayStation 4-exclusive opportunity to change characters’ hair colors with Tickets was also confirmed. However, now that the feature is actually here, it turns out it can be more costly than people might expect. Every time you alter a character, it costs a Ticket. Here’s how the Dead or Alive 6 hair color options work. Each character has 16 different possible colors now, but a PlayStation 4 owner would have to use one Ticket to change. Let’s say someone gave NiCO pink hair. That would cost one Ticket. If they then changed to a different color, like brown, that is a second Ticket. However, as Free Step Dodge reported, going back to pink from brown would cost a third Ticket, even though someone already used a Ticket to change to pink hair previously.

The official website also reveals another possibly alarming detail. All Dead or Alive 6 hair colors are tied to a person’s save data, unlike the costumes and Ticket information that is server-side. So while the other purchases you make are ed even if your save is lost, any new hair colors you purchased will all be gone if you lose your save data.

As pointed out by the official Twitter , the smallest number of Dead or Alive 6 Tickets someone can get at a time is two. That costs $1.99. Discounts don’t kick in unless someone purchases at least 20 at once. (20 tickets cost $19.99, while 50 cost $44.99.)
