Monolith Soft Worked on Mario Kart World Character Designs

Last evening, ahead of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide, the Monolith Soft official social media stated the studio worked on Mario Kart World. This often happens following the launch of a Nintendo first-party title. The credits or the company itself will confirm involvement. In this case, the developer worked on Mario Kart World “field and character designs.”

Here’s the official announcement, which included the box art for the game. It didn’t mention which characters or locations in Mario Kart World that Monolith Soft helped design.

While Monolith Soft is known for making its own original games, such as the Baten Kaitos, Project x Zone, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Xenosaga series, it is well known for acting as a studio for games like Mario Kart World as well. For example, it assisted with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It’s also worked on Dirge of Cerberus: FFVII. This marks the first Switch 2 game it worked on.

However, it isn’t the only time it ended up being involved with the console. Alongside the new system’s launch, Nintendo confirmed a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 update on June 3, 2025. The goal of it was to specifically ensure it would run better on the new console.

Mario Kart World is available for the Switch 2.
